Case study: Suncorp Stadium Archaeological Excavation and Management

Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium is built on one of the city's earliest cemeteries – the North Brisbane Burial Grounds.

When the stadium was redeveloped in 2002, the Culture and Heritage Unit was engaged to manage the impacts on the archaeological resource.

Our work ensured the conservation of a number of identified grave sites and the sensitive relocation of some identified human remains to plots within Toowong Cemetery.
